The recently opened Everlane store, in New York’s NoLita neighborhood, is another interesting chapter in the evolution of retail.  Everlane, one of the most successful and innovative, digitally native brands, has brought their unique POV to their first permanent physical retail space. Eschewing many of the “new rules of retail”, they have chosen to enter brick-and-mortar retail not with an emphasis on social media flashiness and attention-getting technology, but by focusing on the age-old fundamentals of retail. Creating a store filled with natural light, generous fitting rooms and knowledgeable staff; the store in many ways feels and functions more like a store from the past then one from “the future”.  Read more of this post

“Experience” NYC Retail

I had the (rare) fortune last week of having a few moments to check out some of the latest retail concepts in New York. And knowing in the back of my mind that “experience” might be the most overused word in retail in 2017, I went in expecting to “experience something” and let’s just say NYC retail didn’t let me down. Leaders of The New School | Platform LA

IMG_3055While in Los Angeles a couple weeks ago I soaked in a little more than sunny skies and heavy traffic. I spied Platform LA, an eye-catching retail concept situated in the often skipped over, but up-and-coming, Culver City. At first, the shopping district appears to take the form of a familiar outdoor mall but quickly revealed a refreshing twist – one-off retailers, restaurants, and art galleries for a destination-worthy, shopping experience. Platform LA serves up a branded shopping experience with a distinct “between the brands” expression that comes across through their tailored curation of retailers, a commitment to the arts, respite inspired landscaping, and an encouraging tone of voice that acts as a playful counter to their on-site wayfinding. The Blending of Retail: RH Chicago

Foreword: Every 3 years, 100,000+ visitors flock to an international destination to experience all things retail. Hailed as the “Global Retail Trade Fair,” EuroShop covers all things retail related, from store design to visual merchandising. Located in Dusseldorf, Germany, the event offers 17 exhibition halls within 19 different buildings.  A group of lucky FRCH-ers made the trip this year and will be sharing global trends and inspiration from the conference and nearby travel all week!

These eye catching London retail spaces are not just store environments, but art forms that intrigue. Rather than quiet, neutral backdrops for the product, these spaces take the opposite approach; they successfully surprise and delight with bold materiality and captivating displays. The result is a memorable store environment that is exciting to visit and, in turn, generates customers who become loyal brand advocates. Read more of this post

We see the trend of bringing the outdoors “in” for retail, and Bogner in Cologne is a great example of the use of natural resources to create great impact on the store experience.
