“Experience” NYC Retail

I had the (rare) fortune last week of having a few moments to check out some of the latest retail concepts in New York. And knowing in the back of my mind that “experience” might be the most overused word in retail in 2017, I went in expecting to “experience something” and let’s just say NYC retail didn’t let me down. Whether it be interactive, personalized or just over the top grandeur in flagship scale, there was plenty to check out and really dive deep into some of the brand stories. Park Avenue Seasonality

A few weeks ago, I was staring out the window of a NYC Taxi trying not to wince as we almost got flattened by a truck, and a bright yellow awning emblazoned with the word “summer” in bold, capitalized letters grabbed my attention. Fast Company NY: How to Strengthen Your Customer Experience

Fast Company’s 2nd annual Innovation Festival brought together an amazing line-up of innovative thinkers-and-doers from across a wide spectrum of industries. Of particular interest was a session with Danny Meyer of the Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) and Neil Blumenthal of Warby Parker, to discuss the impact of technology on customer experience, both in retail and restaurants. Along with creating a stimulating discussion on the topic of technology, the conversation also highlighted the growing importance of a “hospitality” mindset far beyond the world of restaurants and hotels. Oculus Mall Opens

World Trade Center Oculus

Traveling for work has its perks and this week it was being in New York City the same day as Westfield’s World Trade Center at the Oculus opened. 15 years after the devastating 9/11 terror attacks, the 350,000 square-foot mall is the newest destination rebuilding New York’s new downtown. The mall will eventually feature over 100 retail stores and already includes brands like Apple, Pandora, H&M and Lacoste.

Samsung’s “Non-store”

Samsung Flagship NYC, FRCH Creative FuelSamsung’s new “non-store” store experience recently opened in NYC as an experiential brand space that allows users to see and explore the latest products and innovations from the Korean brand. Guests are greeted by a Samsung host, available to answer any questions or point them in the right direction. The first level is all about the brand experience. From the huge video screen/amphitheater, to the glass DJ booth and VR pods, it sets up a very emotional and exciting experience from start to finish. Read more of this post

NRF Big Show Recap

Retail is booming, but it’s a whole new ball game. At this year’s NRF Big Show nearly 36,000 professionals from over 80 countries converged in New York to learn about and discuss the hot topics driving the next waves of retail revolution.
