Duffs Cake Mix, Los Angeles

For every “fresh”, “vegan” and “farm to table” concept in Los Angeles, you will find a cupcake shop, cookie stand, or gourmet bakery to match it (… of course with a Soul Cycle in between). While each one is typically executed in trendy interior design cues, contemporary branding and graphic design, and usually a gesture of visual merchandising – more often than not, the “experience” leaves a lot to be desired. That said, upon a recent trip to LA I stumbled upon two unique “sweet concepts” that allow the experience to transcend the sweet treats themselves (albeit very good in their own right).  Read more of this post

While recently on vacation with my family, I visited Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater. I, like many others, have seen so many pictures of his iconic work and have read several articles and books about its design and architecture, but to see it firsthand and learn more on how Wright incorporated all elements of natural beauty, like the water from the stream and falls, sandstone, trees and the natural light from the sun into the design of the space is truly amazing and yet another “organic architecture masterpiece” of his work. Just a few days before the start of Spring, the creative culture invited the firm into the lobby to immerse themselves in the sights, sounds and tastes of the upcoming season. Using the Pantone Spring Color Report as a guide, the group was inspired to create a vibrant color experience expressed through food, video, graphics and sculpture. Read more of this post

ForewordOn Friday, August 8th FRCH challenged our entire team to a 24-Hour Design Pop-Up Challenge. We divided the entire company into 8 cross-disciplinary teams to collaboratively create a pop-up concept within 24 hours. The winning concept will be implemented at Cincinnati’s MidPoint Music Festival starting September 25th. Because of the inspired, original results we received, we will be sharing all 8 concepts over the next several weeks on Creative Fuel.
