Foreword: Every 3 years, 100,000+ visitors flock to an international destination to experience all things retail. Hailed as the “Global Retail Trade Fair,” EuroShop covers all things retail related, from store design to visual merchandising. Located in Dusseldorf, Germany, the event offers 17 exhibition halls within 19 different buildings.  A group of lucky FRCH-ers made the trip this year and will be sharing global trends and inspiration from the conference all week!

As we learned yesterday, textures are in! And not just in white … this year is all about creating amazing dimension. New materials for specification at Euroshop are proving to be polarizing-ly different. Huge monolithic tiles and sleek surface materials abound in white, black and shades of neutrals. But what really caught my eye were the more luxury crafted products – they take dimensionality to a new level. Read more of this post

Fast Company NY: How to Strengthen Your Customer Experience

Fast Company’s 2nd annual Innovation Festival brought together an amazing line-up of innovative thinkers-and-doers from across a wide spectrum of industries. Of particular interest was a session with Danny Meyer of the Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) and Neil Blumenthal of Warby Parker, to discuss the impact of technology on customer experience, both in retail and restaurants. Along with creating a stimulating discussion on the topic of technology, the conversation also highlighted the growing importance of a “hospitality” mindset far beyond the world of restaurants and hotels. Every year the International Retail Design Conference (IRDC) selects a city that is a leading curator of retail trends. This year’s host was Montréal – a city that celebrates its history while exuding a contemporary flair, edgy style and a thriving cosmopolitan energy. Combined with a plethora of retail stores, an expansive range of dining options and diverse neighborhoods to explore, this year’s host city was the total package.  Read more of this post

Highlights from Coverings 2016

Coverings Conference 2016, Creative FuelCoverings is an international trade fair and expo dedicated to showcasing ceramic tile and natural stone. It has grown to be the largest and most important show of its kind in the U.S., featuring exhibitors from more than 40 countries and attracting thousands of distributors, retailers, fabricators, contractors and specifiers, architectural and design professionals, builders and real estate developers.

I had the privilege of attending this year’s conference in Chicago. With more than five football fields worth of surfacing, it was a lot to see in a short amount of time, but here were my top highlights:
