Kem Weber (Karl Emanuel Martin Weber) is best known as the architect of the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California.  Walt Disney hired Weber in the late 1930’s (after the success of Snow White) to not only design the studio, but also the interiors and furnishings needed to operate an animation studio. Weber even created a font for the studio that is still used today. The picture above shows one of his chair designs, “The Airline Chair,” being used by some of the animators in the 1950’s, during the production of Sleeping Beauty.   Read more of this post

Whole Foods Market Dayton Grand Opening

Whole Foods Market Dayton, FRCH Design, Creative FuelWednesday, our team took a quick road trip to the grand opening of the first Dayton-area Whole Foods Market. The new 45,000-square-foot store at Oak Creek Marketplace features local products (many made within 100 miles of the store), such as a new flavor of Jeni’s Ice Cream, and a collaboration beer with MadTree Brewing from Cincinnati offered at the in-store pub. Whole Foods Market goes beyond the typical grocery store experience with a coffee bar and growler fill station, fresh soup, salad and sandwich bars, and open service department layouts that bring the product closer to the customer, encouraging an interactive experience with both product and store employees. A group of thirteen FRCH designers were recently given the opportunity to explore the vast floor of GlobalShop 2015, an annual retail design conference held in Las Vegas. Everything from fixture manufacturers and mannequin displays to Cirque-du-Soleil and Latin dancing were explored.
