March of Robots

March of Robots - Elliot LucasEvery March artists and illustrators around the country participate in a drawing challenge called March of Robots. The challenge is simple, design and draw one robot for each day of the month and then post it to social media. Drawing a robot each morning was a great way to kick start my creative energy and to work on my illustration and inking technique. Over the course of the 31 days I strived to make each design unique and looked to a variety of references for inspiration. Below is the complete collection of robots from the month long challenge. Beyond the Earbuds | Annual Breakfast

FRCH Annual Breakfast 2017, Record Jacket

Each year, on the last Tuesday of January, FRCH hosts our Annual Breakfast. Our version of the State of the Union address, we take the opportunity to recap our successes of the past year and share our focus for the coming year. The format consists of quick presentations from each studio and discipline, highlighting key projects and goals accomplished. Several years ago we implemented music into the program … but not just background music … the ability for each speaker to select their personalized ‘walk-up’ music. Since then, the song selections have become a key tradition, with speakers agonizing over the perfect pick. This year, after many internal requests, we wanted to share our 2017 Annual Breakfast playlist with you! Read more of this post

Pass Your Plate

FRCH | Pass Your Plate

We firmly agree with Ms. Loren so for our holiday “card” this year our team decided to gather our favorite recipes from around the firm and share the stories behind the food (along with some pretty mouthwatering recipes…).

Every family has a story to tell, welcome to ours … so pass your plate and allow us to share our joy, memories and waistline with you this holiday season.  Read more of this post

Building a Hobby CNC

CNC, Creative Fuel
About six months ago I moved back to Cincinnati from Chicago, and one of my goals in coming back was to get my hands dirty and have a creative outlet that didn’t fall strictly into the architecture realm. I had just wrapped up my ARE’s and it felt like it was time for a bit of fun. Largely inspired by the amazing work showcased at the FRCH Maker’s Faire I decided to take a leap of faith and rent a small space at Essex Studios in East Walnut Hills. I have always wanted to combine my appreciation of technology and woodworking, and a CNC (that’s computer numeric control) seemed like the perfect place to start. Read more of this post

The Carriage Roads of Acadia

Acadia National Park, FRCH Creative FuelSometime in January I got talked into going to see “National Parks Adventure” in Imax … I’m not sure if it was the soothing sound of Robert Redford’s narration (apparently Morgan Freeman was unavailable…), the catchy tune of James Bay’s ‘Hold Back The River’ or the feeling of being enveloped by the overwhelmingly beautiful scenery – most likely all three – but I suddenly had an overpowering urge to explore these seemingly untouched places.
