De Negen Straatjes

Nestled between three 17th Century Canals that run through the center of Amsterdam, De Negen Straatjes (The Nine Streets) are lined with unique art galleries, cafes, antique/vintage shops and designer boutiques. Everything about this neighborhood, from the window boxes brimming with flowers to the narrow cobblestone streets, served as the perfect meandering haven from the bustling city.

It would have been very easy for me to lose all self control and go wild buying up gorgeous antique jewelry, dutch pottery and modern art that filled the boutiques and art galleries. Luckily, I was able to restrain myself for the most part, that is until I came across the vintage boutique Laura Dols

To be more accurate, Laura Dols is actually made up of two boutiques right across the street from one another on Wolvenstraat. One displays rack after rack of everyday outerwear, handbags, shoes, casual women’s apparel and home goods while it’s sister store across the street is dedicated exclusively to evening wear and all the glamorous accessories that go with it.

This is where I became weak in the knees as I rifled through gown after gown of intricate beading, delicate lace and vintage jewelry that practically blinded me.

The store design was incredibly simple, but the genius of the boutique was how the products were edited and merchandised. Organized by color, the space was extremely easy to shop, but also offered areas where cross-category merchandise was pulled together and displayed on vintage furniture to create drama and visual appeal. They definitely live by the rule: “Product is King!”

Here were my big scores of the day: A black and white clutch trimmed in velvet and one of the aforementioned pieces of costume jewelry… cause a girl deserves a little bling every once in a while!
