Flooring Trends

Here are a few key flooring trends from Surfaces 2007 (via Floor Focus).

  • More sophisticated construction, stripes in carpet, sleeker surfaces, lower gloss levels and darker hard surface palettes.
  • Carpet – Coordinated carpet is more popular than ever. Three or four styles in a line including large, medium, and small scales and a solid to work with each other.
  • Hardwood – Exotic woods are on the increase – especially burly patterns. Super dark stains are are edging out traditional lighter tones. More hand worked details like nail holes and distressed accents are coming into play. Artful stain processes and natural treatments are being used to make more traditional woods look lik something different.
  • Resilient – Larger tile sizes are coming. More coordinates in transitional pieces and wall base are being introduced.
  • Ceramic – Smoother, sleeker and more urban influenced styles are replacing rustic looks. Sleek rectilinear tile formats are becoming more prevalent.
