Caesarstone Quartz

caesarstone-032309Not a new product, but The Library now has a new binder of Caesarstone from the folks at Stone Design.  A fewture of this collection is that they have 6 recycled content colors available.  With the durability of quartz and all the advantages of granite, this is a great product for your use in projects.

Large samples of the collection are on their way.

Commodes? EnviroMode!

One of The Lab’s contributors, The ResourceDiva is out on the road this week talking about trends and what’s new.  She wrote in to comment that the folks she is with this week were very interested in a product that we’ve used that is made out of made from recycled tubs, sinks and toilets.  This terrazzo surface is called EnviroMode from EnviroGLAS products. 

The terrazzo is available in hundreds of custom colors or standards you can see on their website (The Lab loves the red!).   Read more about this product here.

 

Precious Gems

Brilliant precious stones from around the world are available from our friend Jill at Cincinnati-based The PLI Group.  PLI also has many different surfacing materials available including porcelain from Portobello.

PLI offers millwork fabrication, custom cutting and waterjet technologies, and many other capabilities.  Check out their website for more information.

New recycled glass surfacing products from Vetrazzo.  Many different styles are available from recycled windshields to amber beer bottles and more.  Shown is the Cobalt Skyy made our of… Skyy Vodka bottles.

Grenite (Not a Misspelling)

Grenite is a patented solid surfacing material developed by Greneker Solutions and RMD, Inc. Grenite is a ceramic/resin matrix that yields extraordinary resistance to surface wear and tear.  Can be fabricated of up to 85% post-industrial waste.
• Manufactured via a cold-pour molded method or production. No VOC’s are released into atmosphere. No by-products, precipitates or reside wastes which need to be disposed of are created. The process occurs at room temperature; no additional energy is required to drive the manufacturing process.
• 100% of Grenite is recyclable, becoming the basis to build new Grenite.  By design, these materials can exist in a perpetual closed loop, continually serving as both finished product and new raw material.
• Starting at $25 sq. ft..  Pieces shipped with pre-drilled holes, pre-fabricated at no additional cost.
• Material has been used for cashwraps at REI, Nike Outlets, benches on Manhattan Beach.

Corian Hearts Missoni

Delicious display of DuPont Corian at this year’s Milan Fair. The Corian Loves Missoni exhibition shows the endless possibilities of Corian by way of fabrication, color and other methods (sublimation) of manipulating this design staple material.

Mix It Up!

InterMix a collaboration between Corian, Architectual Systems, and Marotte. A hybrid of solid surfacing material and wood veneers, InterMix offers a dramatic and modern effect for any contract setting.

Carved sheets are glued on to MDF for support. Unlimited species wood veneers to choose from. When combined with solid surfacing material, it is recyclable and repairable, contributing to sustainable design. The solid surface is chemical resistant and no finish is required.

Durat

New solid surface material, Durat. Durat is made of 50% recycled plastics and is itself 100% recyclable.

The company collects raw plastic waste material in Scandinavia and turns it into high quality products using modern technology and flexible moulding systems.

Durat can be renewed by slight sanding. The material is very resistant to wear, humidity, and various kinds of chemicals. It can be used in restaurants, cafes, shops, hospitals, laboratories, boats and ships, bathrooms and kitchens. It is available in 70 standard colors.

New Innovation from Corian

corian-070307.jpgCorian introduces the Illumination Series. Two new translucent colors from DuPont Corian, Glacier Ice and Artic Ice, allow up to three times as much light to pass through than other Corian colors. Glacier Ice, a solid, translucent color, will be available this Summer. Artic Ice, made with white particulates, will be available on a limited basis in the fall.

The Lab will be meeting with a Corian expert in the next week to find out about the possibilities with this great new product. Stay tuned!
