Retail Revolution Or Fashionable Flop?

With the debut of NBC’s new primetime show Fashion Star airing tomorrow night (Tuesday March 13th, 9:30EST), I can’t help but wonder whether this will become a pivotal new phenomenon for retail or a very fashionable flop. The concept (if you haven’t seen one of the many ads NBC has been running) is a reality competition series which will search for the next big brand in fashion. Featuring host and executive producer Elle Macpherson along with celebrity mentors Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie and John Varvatos, the series will give 14 unknown designers the chance to win a multi-million dollar prize to launch their collections in three of America’s largest retailers: Macy’s, H&M and Saks Fifth Avenue. The fate of the designers will rest in the hands of a featured buyer from each retailer – Caprice Willard for Macy’s, Nicole Christie for H&M and Terron Schaefer for Saks Fifth Avenue. The worlds of fashion, retail and entertainment have long been intertwined, but what’s unique about this show is that it marks the first time fashions seen on the runway will appear in stores the very next day. A very interesting concept and one that I personally believe could leverage the power of reality TV to drive consumers into retail stores. Read more of this post

Nick Cave at the Cincinnati Art Museum

Nick Cave Soundsuits

Inspired by our recent ArtsWave campaign and a good recommendation from Paul, I spent last Sunday afternoon at the Cincinnati Art Museum. There is a lovely Monet exhibit happening now, as well as some great Picasso sketches.  But for me, Nick Cave’s Soundsuits are really the showstoppers.

ArtsWave 2012

For many years, FRCH has supported ArtsWave (formerly “Fine Arts Fund”) through annual awareness and fund raising campaigns.  This cause is near and dear to our hearts because ArtsWave is an organization that funds and collaborates with a wide range of local art institutions to support the entire arts community of Cincinnati.  Their mission is ‘to be a leader and regional catalyst that works to advance the vitality and vibrancy of Greater Cincinnati by mobilizing the creative energy of the entire community’.  That’s a mission we can all get behind.  Last week was dedicated to the arts as we ran our 2012 campaign to support ArtsWave, FRCH style!

Street Art Inspiration

Those of us who have visual minds find that although we dream in color, there is one fact that is inherently black and white. We are cursed to picture things in our mind that we would rather not – but on the flip-side we are blessed to have the ability to envision a draft-worthy product before we even have the materials ready to sketch. Some visual-minded individuals, like Nikita Nomerz of Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, are blessed to see things that do not exist, and have the ability to bring them to life. Nomerz has brilliantly personified a collection of towers, dilapidated buildings, and deteriorating urban spaces by forcing us all to see what he sees. Read more of this post

FRCH | Over The Radar

Yeah, it’s been a while since my first post. Mostly because I realized I’m not the best person for a music blog. My musical tastes, while broad within genres, aren’t broad in general. However I’d be willing to wager that everyone pigeonholes his/her musical spreadsheet much like I do. Such is life. Anyway if you think I could benefit from a little exposure to Dubstep or Pop Country, feel free to tell me, or suggest me something on Spotify. Also, I encourage everyone to post a comment with songs/artists that blow your hair back!

Here are 5 songs that got me bouncing in my seat lately!
