Intuitive Wayfinding in India
May 6, 2011
Internationally, the most successful wayfinding signage and environmental graphics are those that bridge the language barrier.
Recently, in the airport in New Delhi, India I came across this example of restroom signage that clearly communicated the decision I had to make while being culturally relevant and without any literal verbiage. The use of large format graphics fulfilled the design ethos “go big or go home” and the use of bold color is almost always a positive thing in the sometimes sterile environment of an airport.
The only challenge I observed was that, interestingly, I gravitated to the left.
