Kurt Wenner is a master street painter, artist and teacher. His work has been seen around the world in magazines like Architectural Digest and in theme parks, television specials and books. I was lucky enough to study with Kurt and take several of his outstanding workshops.

Last Friday the rockstars of the FRCH Activities Committee transformed our office into a Holiday spectacle complete with an enormous cascading chandelier hung in the center of our atrium – it was off the chain (pun intended)! The decor was born from a simple concept made from recycled paper and created a jaw-dropping effect through scale and mass. Read more of this post

As designers we are constantly being asked to transform a space, make it new, fresh, and appealing. So we are continuously discussing transformation, whether it is how the space, the people, or even the fixtures transform. However, we often forget about the behavioral side of transformation.

Some very unique and amazing props found in theme parks and themed environments are often made from ordinary and easy to find objects. The skeleton pirates in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride were not sculpted at Disney, but purchased from an anatomical company and dressed as pirates.

Patricia Urquiola has designed MANGAS a new rug collection for carpet and textile brand Gandia Blasco. Each of the eight unique rugs is based on a patchwork of wool knits creating a final rug that is reminiscent of a handmade sweater.

From hi-tech to low-tech, there’s loads of technology available for the retail space. But as you know, technology for technologies sake isn’t cutting it with savvy consumers who are looking for functional applications that offer up relevant information or an entertainment value that enriches the shopping experience.
This selection represents a few of my current favorite technologies with retail implications.
The Adidas store in Paris uses technology to help create highly customized products built to the specifications of each customer. It shows how technology can enhance product engineering and important attributes like fit and function, on top of style.
